Shrimp in Sign Language

Learn how to sign shrimp in ASL (American Sign Language). Are you brave enough to try a shrimp?

  1. Hold one hand up at about shoulder height. Extend your pointer finger and crook it forward slightly. Tuck the rest of the fingers into the palm.
  2. “Swim” the finger forward by bending it up and down and pushing it in a wavy motion in front of you.
  3. This sign looks like a little shrimp swimming through the water. Use this visual to help you remember the sign.

Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign shrimp in ASL

  • Does your family like to eat shrimp? If so, you can practice the sign at mealtime. If you prefer not to eat shrimp, you can visit the fish section of the grocery store and see some shrimp there to practice your sign!
