Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign slow in ASL

  • Play a game of Simon Says, and work in directions to move fast and slow along with the motions. For instance, “Simon says jump up and down nice and slow!” Or, “Simon says spin around slow in a circle”. Add in cues to go fast too, and sign each time to support the direction!
  • If you’re wondering how to use sign language in the classroom, slow (and other directions) is a great place to start. Asking students to move or behave in a certain way and supporting the request with the sign will reinforce the request and help with classroom management!
