Spin in Sign Language

Learn how to sign spin. Go round and round!

1. Extend both pointer fingers and tuck the other fingers into the palms of the hands.
2. Point the index fingers at one another, holding them at a sharp angle (so one elbow points diagonal down and the other points diagonal up). Leave an inch or so between your fingertips.
3. Rotate the arms in a large circle a few times.
4. This sign looks like a big barrel spinning around. Use this visual to help you remember the sign.

Teaching Tips:

  • Animal games for children can start with the classic Pin the Tail on the Donkey! It is also a perfect game to practice the sign for spin. The child who has the  blindfold on can’t see the sign of course, but everyone else can chant spin-spin-spin and sign as the person with the blindfold gets turned around. Then proceed with the game.
  • Find some toys that spin, such as a top, toy helicopter, game board piece, etc. Play with the toy with your child and encourage them to spin the object by signing the word spin.

Transcript:
Spin. Your fingers show a spinning motion. You can spin slow or fast! Spin!
