Spoon in Sign Language
Learn how to sign spoon in ASL (American Sign Language), you can probably practice the sign at least once a day at a mealtime!
- Hold one hand up, palm flat and facing up.
- With the other hand, extend the middle and pointer fingers and press them together. The rest of the fingers get tucked into the palm.
- Scoop the fingers along the palm of the first hand.
- This sign looks just like you are using a spoon (the second hand) to scoop up some yummy food from a plate (the first hand). Use this visual to help you remember the sign.
Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign spoon in ASL
- Practice your signs for all the place settings! Give your child a fork, spoon, and butter knife and show her where to place them around a plate. Sign for each!
- Teach baby sign language by using everyday items. Mealtimes are the perfect time to practice as you have several a day and the items you use are fairly consistent – such as baby’s spoon! Sign words like eat, cereal, and spoon as you go.
