Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign telephone in ASL

  • Provide play telephones for your child. Encourage them to call imaginary friends or favorite people and have a pretend conversation. You can even be the person on the other line. Sign telephone together while you play!
  • Learn sign language online and for free from your smartphone! If you’re okay with it, allow kids limited screen time to watch our YouTube videos, videos in this dictionary, and our app. Encourage her to tell you about what she is learning by using sentences such as, “I saw how to sign potty on the telephone!” This also makes the screen time more interactive and less passive, which is always a good thing.
