I have wanted to do the shapes with DD in ASL, but I have never seen them in a book.
Specifically, "square", "circle", "rectangle", "triangle", and "oval".

You just trace the shape with your index fingres, using 2 hands. Make sure you trace the triangle shape don't just make a triangle with your index fingers and thumbs touching. That is a TOTALLY different sign.

LOL that is what Anyka does for Triangle - I can't get her to do it right! (It is the sign for the female anatomy - V-----) I just explain what she means and move on!

That's probably the best thing to do - explain it and move along.
"Nothing to see here, folks. Mosey on along now, y'all."

I guess that's right up there with stories of mixed up English words....
Like my sister exclaiming loudly in the fish store, "Mommy, look at all of the test*cles!"...rather than 'tenticles'. She must have been about 5, and I was about 10. I nearly peed my pants laughing so hard.
Kids are just bound to make little mistakes like that...many either make you laugh or embarass you beyond belief. Luckily mine is only 18 months, but I know it's coming....
