How do you sign mango?

We spell it.... but if you're signing with your child to bridge the gap, and it's a word you use enough, then I suggest you sign FRUIT (the color of the mango) and CL the shape.
If your child is older, you may as well spell... depends. I don't think there is a sign for mango, but I certainly could be wrong! But then again, we spelled PEAR until we saw Rachel sign it!! haha :D

Don't be afraid to fingerspell to your children. No, they may not know that you are spelling M-A-N-G-O but they will see that pattern and that series of finger shapes as the sign for mango. Does that make sense?
For example, I interpret in first grade. There is no ASL sign for the word DATE. I fingerspell D-A-T-E. Does the student know how to spell DATE? No, but he does know that when I sign those series of letters and how they look all together, that's what I mean.

Lezlie is so right!! My 18 month old daughter likes Dora the Explorer and we've been fingerspelling D-O-R-A all along. For the past five months or so, when she sees Dora on something at the store, in a magazine, anywhere, she tries to fingerspell D-O-R-A and holds her A at the end. It doesn't look quite right, but we know exactly what she means when she does it. Even if she does it out of the blue, I start looking around because I know she's spied Dora somewhere. It is absolutely amazing to me that children can begin fingerspelling at such a young age!!!!

We spell constantly, and Henry does get it, but sometimes we spell and then couch (spell, explain, spell), and then we explain less and less and just spell.
Dora is definitely one that we spell and have since he was watching... same with Elmo (see discussion about that on other thread!!)
