How do you sign helicopter?

non dominant hand should be in the "d" shape.
Dominant hand is the "5" shape. Place the palm of the "5" hand on top of the "d" so that the palm of the "5" hand is facing down. Wiggle the "5" hand to mimic the blades.

I ad originally been taught to sign it that way, pointer up with 5 hand (blades) on top. We are including HELICOPTER in ST! V11 - My Neighborhood.
Our ASL expert actually recommended a different version-- Make a 3 hand with thumb positioned straight up to the sky AKA classifier for a vehicle. Then add your 5 hand on top of the thumb - 5 hand being the blades. I really like this version, because there is no question, it is a vehicle with moving blades on top... a HELICOPTER.
Funny Side Note--- When we were discussing adding some of these neighborhood vehicles to V11, we were a little concerned because some had already been covered on BST. BST has - BOAT, HELICOPTER, BIKE, CAR, BUS
ST11 has BOAT, HELICOPTER, MOTORCYCLE, BUS
Emilie's question to me was, "Well how are you going to write a better song about transportation than BST's "Here I Go!" My response was- "Em, that is MY job to worry about, not yours!" ;) And I ended up writing, what Aaron says is his new all time fav ST song - "Watch Me Go!"

Thanks! It makes sense to use the vehicle classifier as the hand shape instead of the "d".

My daughter loves helicopters and airplanes - how could I missed it? :eek:

I thought I was blind :p , we looked helicopter up, because my daughter loves them so much.
Like she loves airplanes, she's very exited in "Here I go", when the real airplanes are shown!
We'll look forward to Vol. 11 - never enough vehikles for my little one!
For christmas we'll give her a wooden airport!
