I wasn't sure where to put this so I decided just to put it here.
I was thinking that maybe a childrens bible songs such as Jesus loves me, Jesus loves the children of the world and other songs along those lines. It's just a thought.
I am relatively new so am not sure if it has ever been suggested before.

I wish that I had a signing version of even songs like itsy bitsy spider, so Sophie could be learning vocabulary along with any songs, not just "fun gestures". I've tried to do a little myself (like Little bunny foo foo...). Sounds kinda goofy when I put it in writing, I guess :o

Agreed with sing-along/sign along videos! And just a video of church/religion related signs, and holiday signs (We're starting to have decorations up here, and Alli's constantly pointing and asking "WHAT"-so I need LOTS of signs which simply weren't covered in college classes!)
I'd also like to find children's stories told via signing. Alli saw a video of the National Theatre of the Deaf at the local children's museum and was absolutely enthralled. (I can't wait until the high school Deaf drama group here does their Spring production, because I think she'll love it if it's not past her bedtime).

I know this is a pretty tardy response, but I'm in northcentral Arkansas, and I was thinking that I'd like to try to figure out what might be going on in Memphis . . .
If you find out when the high school production will be, would you mind very much to post on the discussion board? My little one might be too young, but on the other hand, he might really enjoy it too!
If you don't mind my asking, do you know a good way I might find out what signing opportunities are available in Memphis? Who/What organization would I ask, and what is a good way to go about asking without coming across as . . . well, I don't exactly know an English word for this. Like "gringa" in Spanish . . . you know? Like a cultural interloper . . .
Any tips regarding that would also be great!
Thanks!

FYI, it's been suggested (on the alexandleah yahoo group) that any local events should be posted in the "Playgroups" forum. (I've also seen them in the "Commercial" forum) You may want to post there asking (and dmmetler/Donna (?), that may be the spot if you see something interesting coming).
Just a thought :)

The LDS church has the songs done for each year's children's Sacrament Meeting presentation translated into ASL. (They can be found at ldscatalog.com under materials for people with disabilities.) I believe that it goes back to 1993. They actually take you through line by line and tell you how the songs are translated. For example, in the song "I'll Walk With You," the first line in English "If you don't walk like most people do" is translated into ASL as "IF YOU WALK DIFFERENT." I cried the first time I watched this song signed because it is all about accepting people as they are even if they don't walk or talk the way you do. Even knowing that so many people are learning how to sign I still worry about how Cassia is going to "fit in."

Cassia will "fit in" just fine - you just have to remember to surround her with people who "fit in" to HER life. She is a wonderful person and there are lots of people out there who will count themselves lucky to know Cassia. She will touch lives in her own way. She was not meant to be like everyone else, so just don't worry about other people - focus on helping her be the best Cassia she can be, and trust that other people will see that in her.
