Rachel,
I remember you saying that Juliana Wetmore's father is a member of this forum. I've been thinking of her alot lately, and I wonder how she's doing. Have you spoken to the family lately?
Just wanted to let that incredible family know that we're thinking of them, and that I hope she is doing well... is she almost three now?

I just got news that they are doing a follow up on Discovery. They contacted me because there is something Signing Time in it. They asked me to sign a release.

Let us know more whne you do...

Sherry,

Thanks for posting this!! Going to do a quick cross-reference post (http://www.signingtime.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12135&) in the "Prayers.." thread, just for reference.

Sherry,

Thanks for the link to the site! It's great to see how Juliana is doing. Now, to be sure I tune in for the show on TLC. This little girl's story is just amazing. I remembered reading it when I was first getting acquainted with ST! and the ST! Foundation.

I caught Juliana's story on TLC last night (part two)... wow, what an incredibly strong family.
Kendra is such a wonderful sister!! I loved all the school scenes when they were interacting (and also when Juliana was just going about her business!). You can just see/hear/feel how MUCH Kendra adores her sister... the best is when she said she wanted Juliana to be in her same class (some protective instincts there ;) ) but she said that she knows that's not how it works because she (Kendra) was born first. Just beautiful!

And ST was shown quite a bit... When they were packing up to go to Miami (again, :o , wow), Juliana was clutching her DVD's, making sure they got packed!! It's fun to see her grow up.. the first show (which they replayed yesterday afternoon), you can see that the younger Juliana really didn't have much of a part in packing up to get ready, and now at 3+, she is soooo typical in helping and "helping"!! Great!

Thanks, Thom and Tami, for sharing your story with us. We're still thinking about Juliana and so proud of all you do to reach the two goals that Thom spoke of. Excellent vision. Your girls are so beautiful....

I will have to look for a second showing! I missed this. Thanks, Jen, for sharing a little bit about it. And that's so sweet that the ST! DVDs are that important to Juliana. :)

I echo the thanks to Thom and Tami for sharing with all of us across the nation!

When was this one shot? Is daddy home yet? I can't imagine going through what they are AND having daddy away!! Kendra is SOOOOOO cute...she loves her little sister so much!!! Julianna will be just fine!

I wish them all the best...I too loved her clutching her ST DVD before leaving for the hospital.

I hope the docs can perform a miracle for this
very deserving little girl!!!

TLC — Building a New Face
Building a New Face

Juliana, born without a face, is now three years old. It's one year later as we follow Juliana's next ground-breaking operation. The operation is once again at the frontiers of medical science and her last major surgery for the next five years.

Building a New Face

Thanks, Kei... This is actually the same story they originally ran on Sept 17th. I've seen it on two more times since (and now the third).

So nice to see her growing up... the whole INDEPENDENCE thing. And her sister is an amazing person, too.

The first show was Born Without A Face. The latest one is Building a New Face. Aaron and I watched it on our DVR late last night and we were both brought to tears. All I can say is WOW!

I called Tami today and she said Thom gets back from his 6 month deployment in 2 more weeks!!!

She said thankfully it has been pretty much uneventful since he left. And Juliana recovered without complication from the surgery!

You can check in on our friend Juliana Wetmore by visiting www.julianawetmore.net

Thanks for the website Rachel. I have told you before about my BF son with Treacher Collins Syndrome - my inspiration - Drew. You told me about Juliana's story about 4 months ago. It's great to see another family's strength and perserverance.
Thanks again for sharing.

I did ask Tami if she watched Juliana's surgery on the TLC program, she said "No, I fast forwarded it."
Yeah, I think I would have as well. I didn't watch Juliana's surgery either - I think it was hard because I know her!

I don't know how doctors can do what they do, but I am glad they do!

Discovery Health recently ran another update on our friend Juliana Wetmore. The newest version is called "Born Without A Face: 5 Years Later" (http://health.discovery.com/tv-schedules/special.html?paid=62.15509.127091.0.0)

I was able to catch up with the Wetmore's last month while in Florida, speaking at NASA. Wow! Juliana has grown and so has Kendra! We played at the beach and then went to dinner together. The family is doing great and Juliana signs so well. I just can't believe that she is not longer a 2 year-old toddler, but an adorable little girl!

You can check in on them any time at www.julianawetmore.net (http://www.julianawetmore.net)

Whoa! Just checked out the website... she has gotten so big! I love the picture of her and her sister signing ILY. Cute!
I will check out the latest Discovery show... I haven't seen it listed yet. Thanks, Rachel. I'm glad you are in touch with them and that they are doing well.
