One of my parents in my Sign and Sing class commented that since she started signing with her son (in therapy for a speech delay), he's almost doubled his spoken vocabulary, because he'll sign a word and then try to say it. She's absolutely amazed at how fast he's picking up on signs, but also that he's learning spoken words via signing too ;)
Happy dance!! :D

That happened with my hearing daughter, who has speech delays, after we got BST.

That's exciting! It's always feels so great to see the benefits of signing firsthand.

My DD is doing that too! She signs "hat" and trys to say it! It comes out ha but that's just fine with me that she's trying to talk. It brings tears to my eyes while i'm typing it right now ;)

Totally understand that one. When she signs her version of have, she tries to say it, too. Yay that that mommy is learning the benefits!

The other thing is, with sign, you can learn THEIR word for things. We would find Anyka would say something that sounded like babble, and when she realized we didn't understand she would sign and say, and from then on we'd understand her spoken word for that! (Usually)
That's the way it happened with Cassidy too. Before we started signing she wasn't saying anything. It was like signing made this connection in her brain and after that she would sign and then try to say the word. Signing first was the key!
