I don't know how to sign it but I sure wouldn't sign ROOT-BEER! haha. Maybe soda pop and then RB or something like that.

I'm not too sure how to sign that either, but I would try setting it up as first signing SODA then fingerspelling ROOT BEER. HTH

Hello, I just asked Krista aka ASLnmbr1
about the sign and she says.
Just rb
If u want a rootbeer float just sign rb then spell float.
Or if you happen to say you like rootbeer out of the blue we just spell the full name once then say rb right after you spell it then they will know what you mean if you continue to talk about rootbeer.
If you have anymore Question about rb ask Krista :)
Hope this helped.

Yup.. here, too... If it's out of the blue (with no context to help you know what RB is), then sign SODA first.
I craved RB very badly when I was pregnant with Henry. The only thing I craved the whole time. haha

While RB is my favorite and also my soda of choice, recently I've been craving Cherry Coke. Wild Cherry Pepsi sometimes suffices, but I prefer Cherry Coke or MUG RB.

Thank you for your help everyone! My kids show almost no interest in fingerspelling and with my oldest being autistic I was hoping to keep it simple. Hopefully RB will work. Thanks again!

Silly question... I'm sure you do, but.... Have you tried making pictures and velcroing them to the fridge for him? That way, he can take them down and give them to you (request) if he's not into the sign(?) I don't know his level of communication (if you use pictures, and if so, if he's at the stage of real photos to line drawings, or Boardmaker representation...).... just thought I'd put it out there (not as "PECS" but just as symbols or pictures as a way to request).
Just a thought...

That is an excellent idea. My mom is an occupational therapist and I recently heard her give this suggestion to one of her parents. I has had the child and parent's communication more than they thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think it would work though. Brandon's very unique, to put it nicely (the doctors that evaluated him for autism were even preplexed by him  ).
I tried RB with Brandon today and to my surprise he signed it back. :)
