I think my little girl has the sign for bird and no mixed up. Any suggestions on another sign for either word...its funny to see her at the park calling the birds no nos.

Just as a child might say "ba" for bear, ball, book, etc. it is common to use similar signs to mean different things.

For example, the other day Alexandria (hearing) hurt herself by pulling a large globe on a metal stand over onto herself. When I picked her up to comfort her she was screaming and started signing what I thought was "more, more, more, more." I asked if she wanted more food, more drink, more loves, etc. Then I noticed that her shoe had come off when she fell. I picked up the shoe, and she immediately stopped crying. She had been signing "shoe, shoe, shoe, shoe." The huge bruise on her forehead that had already formed was not as upsetting as the loss of her shoe.

To answer your questions about different signs, you can use "stop" or "don't" instead of "no." You can also use the ILY sign for anything that flies--not just airplanes. Also, FYI, the sign for "duck" is similar to the sign for bird, but it uses two fingers (middle and index) instead of just the index. It is very similar to the sign for "no." By chance was she looking at ducks at the park?

That is cute. :) She'll get it eventually though.
