How about a forum for "Off-topic Chatter"... we could ask general parenting questions and the like... Or it'd be a place to post questions like the one about the Chritmas decorating that rec'd a lot of posts on A&L...

Just a thought! :)

I think that is a great idea. I'd like to get to know people better, but would also like to keep that separated from the legit ST! stuff.

Yep, great idea! I'm a moderator at a bulletin board for figure skating, and we have an off-topic discussion section--and to be honest, it's probably the most active part of the board. It's such a great place to be--that's where the friendships are really made and cemented.

Glad you liked the idea! Let's see what the "powers at be" think about it! ;)

I think it is a good idea as well. How about we make this the off topic thread? I will see what I can figure out.

I got it to work so this thread has been renamed and is now the off topic thread. The place for all the fun chatter that dosen't seem to fit anywhere else. Anything and Everything! Enjoy.

Thanks for changing the thread title, but if we're going to do this, I think it needs to be a whole 'nother forum, so there aren't 73 different off topic tangents going at once within this one thread, if you KWIM. That way, people could pick and choose that topics they wanted to talk about that are off-topic, just like in any other forum... Hopefully that's clear...?

Yes I see what you want now. I am not able to do that though. We will have to see what the super moderators think. Of course we haven't had alot of off topic chatter here at all yet.

ITA. In the meantime, I'd say we should just make separate posts on the general board.

Probably because there is not really a place to put it. :) LOL. Thanks for trying to help out though!

Yeah, probably. It is "General" ST Discussion. Now, whether that's general discussion about ST, or general discussion here at the ST forums is probably up for debate, LOL! But if we just start posting separate posts, then we can probably get a better idea of just how much Off Topic posting we'll be doing, to see whether it warrants a separate forum. (I personally think it probably does, but if TPTB don't care if it's mixed in with general chat about ST, then I don't care either.) Maybe we can start each off-topic thread title with OT: ...like OT: Need Christmas stuffing recipes or some such thing.

I agree that labeling things "OT" for now is a great idea. Glad I was able to explain myself above, too! ;)

Have a great Sunday! :)

This is off topic of signing, but was so funny I had to copy it from the Alex and Leah group on yahoo and place it here. We've definitely been through this as a group....

How many list members does it takes to change a light bulb?

One to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

Fourteen to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

Seven to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

Seven more to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about
changing light bulbs.

Five to flame the spell checkers.

Three to correct spelling/grammar flames.

Six to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...
another six to condemn those six as stupid.

Fifteen to claim experience in the lighting industry and give the
correct spelling.

Nineteen to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to
please take this discussion to a lightbulb (or light bulb) forum.

Eleven to defend the posting to the group saying that we all use light bulbs and there fore the posts are relevant to this group.

Thirty six to debate which method of changing light bulbs is
superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light
bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

Seven to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

Four to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL.

Three to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

Thirteen to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety
including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

Five to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

Four to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

Thirteen to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

Three to tell a funny story about their show dog and a light bulb.

AND

One group lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now with something unrelated they found at snopes.com and start the crap all over again
