View Full Version : Captioned Media Program
Being Deaf, I have access to open captioned videos. I dont know if you are aware of the services. These videos are loaned to Deaf or hard of hearing, parents, teachers and other professionals who work with this population.
So, if u fall into one of those categories and you have not signed up please do so. Wonderful ASL educational videos. :p

Hi Bill,
Since ADA, many video/dvd production companies have been pressured to offer CC (what many see on products as "closed captioning", and what people call closed captioning). Everyone has access to CC by just changing the programming on your tv to havethe CC turn into "Open Captions". Open and closed just refers to the viewability (is that a word? :p )
If a video is made with Open captioning, it just means that the captions will show whether or not you the viewer have programmed for that to happen.... like subtitles.
So you don't need to sign up for anything... everyone can benefit and enjoy open captions... just check the little speak bubble symbol and the letters CC next to it on anything you rent or watch on tv...
Enjoy!!!
Than ks Jenml,
I was referring to the captioned media program. I had to register and log in every time. And, please correct me if I am wrong, the media has certain requirements to order. I dont think that I mean subtitles. And, again let me know what you are referring.
Thanks

I think Bill may have been refering to the service called Captioned Media Program. They recently changed their name, here is the link to their website.

Is that what you were referring to, Bill? I know many who have benefited from this service...
Yes!! :p And, if some parents meet the criteria, they can join and have access to many educational videos.
Than kyou, for clarifying. It is so great that I dont want anyone to miss an opportunity, :D

I am signed up for this program and enjoy using it for their sign language learning materials.
They did recently change their name to "Described and Captioned Media Program" and are using a new link as well. http://www.dcmp.org/
