View Full Version : Sign updates/newly acquired signs
I was looking for a place to post a sign Rebekah is finally starting to understand and didn't find one that seemed right - so I made one! lol
Rebekah is finally starting to understand the sign for grumpy/angry. Up till now she would always laugh when she saw it on the video or when I did it cause she thought the faces were funny.
Today she scratched me (scratching is a problem for her), and I pulled her aside and said, "no scratching, NO scratching," and signed, "mommy, angry" then pointed at her. She just looked at me intently and for a moment I thought she would cry. I'm not sure if she really "got it" but she didn't laugh and she knew I was serious.
It's a step!

That is wonderful that she is starting to get that scratching others (or even herself) might not be a good thing.
I was wandering through the holiday decoration section of a store the other day, and Alexandria saw a little reindeer that rocks like a small rocking horse for a toddler. We had some time to kill, and so I let her sit on it and rock for awhile. I kept signing "Deer" to her, and I told her that if she signed it back we would have to get it. (She has been wanting a rocking horse for awhile now.) I was very surprised when she signed "Deer" back to me. I pulled out my camera and got a picture of this, but I seem to have deleted it when I was trying to add it to my signature. At least she is doing better at learning sign than I am at learning how to use the computer. :)

Imani's signs have taken off lately! We were playing with an alphabet cube game and she would tell me the sign for each thing as I showed her the picture. If she didn't know it, I would sign it for her and she would repeat it right back to me!
I tried the same game again today and she was having none of it, but now Iknow that all those signs are in those precious hands when she decides to use them!

We were at Target yesterday with my mom and letting Paula goof around in the toy section. She loves those little foam armchairs covered with plush. She was sitting in a pink one, then tried a purple one. She got up and looked at the purple one with a serious face and signed and voiced, "LOW."
We watch the "Sign Me a Story" video at bedtime, the one with Linda Bove. In Goldilocks and the Three Bears, she signs, "CHAIR LOW," as in, "This chair is too low!" Apparently Paula picked this up!

Marian is 11 months old. We were at her older sister's friend's house. Her sister, Lillian, came around the corner with a tiara on, and Marian just started walking toward her as fast as she could go signing hat over and over again. This is one of the few no prompting signs we have had from her. She signs sometimes when we are signing to her, but does not often just sign something.
