how do you sign rice?
Answering my own question. I asked my Tiny Sign class and our instructors said like SOUP only with an "R" hand. So non dominant hand holds the bowl and dominant hand scoops the rice with an "R"
Does that sound right to others?

The book used in the Sign and Sing class uses a sign like SOUP for CEREAL. Has anyone seen that variation before? I showed the parents both the one I use (which is the one on ST) and the one in the book, and mentioned that I had learned that particular sign for SOUP.
Also, Lessontutor uses the sign I know for CARROT for CELERY, then uses something totally different for CARROT, but doesn't label it as SE (and usually that site's pretty good about doing so).
Are these just regional variations?

Yes, correct! Two points for the RICE eaters!! I also use a Y for YOGURT, and H for SOUP. Smiles, ReBecca;)

(ReBecca, perhaps you can comment...)
I think I've concluded that all nuts (e.g. almonds, pecans) are fingerspelled. I've heard the sign for nut & peanut are the same, so you sign 'nut' followed by fingerspelling the one you want to specify if it is not peanut. Is this correct?

Peanut, walnut, pecan, almond, kukui...yeah, sign NUT, then fingerspell what type...then there is the sign for NUT, meaning you're a nut! But that's not what we wanna teach our children, right???:D
Snug as a bug in a rug! It's supposed to snow 5-6 inches and I'm so toasty warm today!

Another regional variation - I learned yogurt as butter signed with a Y.

I'm trying to picture this. That's quite interesting! Is your Y palm face down on the non-dom face up palm?
Also, where are you located? I want to be prepared if we move to your neck of the woods! Grins, ReBecca
