I started my flash card project today. I'm making duel purpose cards for reading/signing. The front side will be the printed word and the back the picture. Has anyone else made picture flash cards for signing?? Any games or fun activities you specifically use them for??

I made some a few years ago for William. At that time, I put the picture (like our car, William & his brothers for boys, my girls & me for girls, William on the slide, Eat, etc) and the word on one side, the sign with the word on the back because at the time I was just working on him learning the words and signs together. I think if I did them now I'd put the pic & word on one side & the sign, no word on the other. I had bought a laminator for them too, and found some 4x6 photo paper on clearance for the cards themselves.
When I had the sign side up, I used to ask him if he could find me which one was the sign for _____. And I'd flip them to the picture side and ask him if he could sign _____.

I hadn't thought of putting the picture with the word on the same side. Mostly because I am making the word cards to follow the program How To Teach Your Baby To Read. Perhaps I ought to think through a bit and figure out if it would be more beneficial to add the picture next to the word it represents.

Where did you find illustrations of the actual sign?? The only thing I can think of is to make a photo copy from a book.

I'm sitting here surfing a website for clip art to use for my flash cards. I'm going through all the sub categories the site has on foods. Suddenly I realize I'm looking through the sub category label "alcohol". Don't think I need any flash cards for my 16 month old on alcohol! It's must be time for bed...

Here is a link to a sign language clip art program.

Lesson tutor has some ASL clip art, and you can save the pictures in the lessons separately as well.
