View Full Version : I need to interview a Deaf student, Help!
For my interpreting class I need to interview a Deaf student(deaf or hoh as long as the majority of their communication is done in ASL and have experience using interpreters) who is currently in High School (10th-12th grade) or College. I personally do not know anyone in this category and my resources are about exhausted.
If any of you know someone and they would be willing to let me interview them, please let me know. If they're local (Utah), I could meet them in person but I am also allowed one interview via e-mail. (Note: I actually have to do 8 interviews but all with different requirements/pre-requisites.)
If you're the one who helps me get the interview maybe a little reward from the ST store could be sent from me to you. :) .

Most of my friends are in my age range or older, but I do have one friend (hearing) who has a Deaf daughter about that age (I think she's 18). She is Deaf, but also has CP (signs fluently and only one hand is affected b the CP) and has some learning issues. You could interview her with her mother (via mother's email or if you have access to a VP, use that?! That would be great for your project... like a "live", face to face interview but 2,000 miles away... cool!!).
If you don't have access to a VP, then maybe via relay with her using a VP(?). Just a thought.
Other friends I have with kids that age are Deaf parents with hearing children... the Deaf person has to be that age range?
Do you have access to an interpreting program? My ITP has a Deaf program there, too (located in a community college). If you get desperate for candidates to interview, perhaps you could contact a place like that and the director could hook you up with students... just another thought!

I know of a family in Cache Valley that has a Deaf son that age (I think he is that age) they would probably be up for something like this. if you want me to call my friend and see if I can get their number or see if she'll pass your number on let me know. you can get my number from Julie.
