Funny story behind why I ask... Was giving my little ones a bath yesterday morning, and Hannah loves to wash herself with the liquid baby bath soap. She also washes her hair pretty well, too, for a 3 year old! But anyway... she was looking over at the soap, and signed "more SOUP please"! I started laughing hysterically... because she pointed to the SOAP and signed SOUP....... thought that was pretty funny.
Then later in the day, she was watching the "My Favorite Seasons" DVD, and Rachel was singing about the seasons and mentioned "Fall" in the song.... well, Hannah turned around and signed "FULL"...
But oh, yeah.....her hearing is just fine according to the ENT......
Anyway..... what is the preferred way to sign Soap? And do you just sign "Autumn" for Fall? I want to help her learn that one properly, too.
Thanks so much!

SOAP is done by having your non dom hand flat open, palm up and dom hand fingers brush onto palm (like wipe your hand and your "ending position" is like an A handshape). Do that at least twice.
My son mixes stuff up like that all the time.
He signs OLD for OWN; he signs BACK for PACK (like I-C-E BACK). Pretty funny...
AND... he taught his preschool teacher (when he was three) that to sign FALL (as in autumn) was the sign for FALLING (as in, falling down). When his teacher showed it to me on open house night, I nearly fell down myself (laughing). And she said "he's so eager to show us all his signs... he showed us how to sign FALL when we do the calendar..."

SOAP is on one of the Baby Signing Times. "Wash wash, scrub scrub, I use soap and water..."
Cadence does things like that where she mistakes one word for another also. I asked her if she would like a bite of what I was eating and she signed BIKE. I showed her a square, and she signed WHERE. There are a lot of words that sound alike, and it must be confusing for little kids!

Uh, oh....... I guess I have to go backwards and buy the BST DVD's now! Guess we missed a lot... ! We started with the regular series...never did get BST. Thanks for the tip!
And Hannah signs BIKE for BITE all the time! That was our first clue that her hearing might be a little bit off. She signs "SHOES" for "CHOOSE" (so now I say "PICK").
Her SLT is supposed to work with her on rhyming words and sounds...we'll see... I just don't trust that they are going to keep signing with her.... I think I'm going to spend a lot of time at her school being a pest...Whatever it takes to help my little one communicate the the best of her ability.
Thanks again for the tip... when I have a little more money, I'll look into the BST DVD's...
