There are quite a few of us expats in the Tokyo/Saitama area. I'm wondering if there just may be an ASL playgroup...or are there any people out there who would like to help me get one started?
My granddaughter is profoundly hard of hearing. It would be a big boost to her to know that there are other kids using ASL.
It would also be nice for families to find a group of people with whom they can discuss things. Japan has a rather interesting policy toward deaf issues...it is highly politicized. It really isn't easy choosing which road to go with our youngsters.

Sue,
My daughter and I love Signing Time so much we have introduced it at her preschool and they have daily Signing Time!! We would love to meet up with you, your granddaughter and daughter. My husband is Japanese and I am American. My daughter is dual. She is a hearing child so I don't have any experience in dealing with the Japanese deaf community schools etc., but if you have time I would love to get together and see how the girls get along.

Hi, Trisha!
It really would be nice if we could get together sometime. Right now I need to finish off the school year. I'm teaching in a Tokyo area school and summer vacation is around the corner.
My daughter also introduced ST to Kaelynne's kindergarten. They want the kids to be able to communicate with her. The videos are so well done and keep kids so focused.
It would be nice for Kaelynne to have a signing friend!
Let's stay in touch.

Dear Sue,
Sorry it has taken me so long to write back. I also teach. We don't start summer vacation until August. I really want to meet up with you and Kaelynne. Maybe the last week of August?? We will be going back to the states forthe first few weeks of August. You can e-mail me if that is better. I think I signed up so that you can send emails by going to my profile.
