Not yet able to get color in my text when highlighting and then choosing a color from the drop down menu. I was able to add it to my signature by picking the color from the drop down and THEN typing the words I wanted in color.

I love this new forum!
I love the different options and that if you are not interested in a thread you do have to even see it.
Thanks for all the hard work that has made it possible. :)

I've always loved forums where I could click on the thread title and read all the posts made under it... gives me time for less clicking and more posting!

So far so good. Question why can we not access these, why are they all turned off in this forum?:
vB code (http://70.86.26.3/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode) is Off
Smilies (http://70.86.26.3/forums/misc.php?do=showsmilies) are Off
[IMG] (http://70.86.26.3/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode#imgcode) code is Off
HTML code is Off

we aren't going to allow html codes as they can sometimes be used maliciously...you should be able to upload an avatar..and pictures in your signature...are you unable to?

Ok, If I'm in hybrid mode I can see how to post/replay to a message. But I cannot see how to do it in thread mode. What am I missing??

So far, I find this a little harder to follow, but I'm one of those crazy ones that get every email!! And read them all!! I'm sure I'll get used to it soon.

Also, just to be picky, I think the hugging smiley is really cute, but it's very distracting to me to have all that motion next to where I'm trying to type.

When you visit the new store it asks you to log in or create an account. I am a returning customer but it didn't recognise my log in. Do I need to make a new account because it is a different site?

When I get the subscription emails for the forum, the link it provides doesn't work (at least for me).

Here's the one I just got - http://82.165.239.121/forums/showthread.php?t=23&goto=newpost

and the message I get when I try to load it:

I think it might work in this forum as long as the IMG code is on. But here is what I have done on other message board forums. Upload your pics to a site like photobucket.com and from there each pic will have a IMG code...copy and paste the code into your message and your siggy...and your pic should appear, I hope...here I will try one.Yeah it worked:

Img code in signatures is now turned on...

And I've added a few avatars...the first few are available after you post 1 time...the next few are available to the folks who post 25 times or more...and the next set for 50 or more posts...If anyone has some suggestions on avatars for 100 or more posts let me know!

Okay, I feel like I'm missing something obvious here. When I post a reply to a thread, I get options for subscribing to the thread that includes something like "Instant email notification". When I subscribe to a forum, the only options are Daily & Weekly email notification (or none, which I'm not sure what subscribing does, then). I'm assuming that the Daily gives some sort of a digest (which I tend to hate). What am I missing? I feel like a goofball asking, but... help!

TIA for any guidance you can give!

The forum subscriptions give you a digest of sorts - new threads and threads that have new comments. It doesn't actually email you the comments, just links. Or at least that's how it works on another board I visit that's set up just like this one. :)

Hi,
I just read at alexandleah that that group will be phased out in favor of this one. I'm not a computer person so it will take me a while to get used to the bells and whistles here, but that's ok.

My question is (until I started with some nasty morning sickness) the Wednesday night chats were a highlight of my week. Is there a way we will continue that on this forum or are there going to be no more chats - that would make me very sad!

Well, I adored the old group and read or skimmed all the emails from the every day (crazy, I know) and I will miss the ability to just flip through them all and mentally thread the comments together. But I see the advantages of the new forum and eventually I will figure it all out. I suppose I will learn some new things here too. For starts, what is an avatar? :o I will probably love this forum better than the old group eventually. Just give me a little time.

Among all the bells and whistles of this new forum, will we be able to track posts by certain posters no matter where they post? There are some people I have come to know from the old group and I would be interested in reading their posts on any subject even if it were a thread to which I didn't subscribe.

If such a search function doesn't exist, could you create it. I'm sure I am not the only one who has developed interests in the the thoughts and opinions of certain online friends. If nothing else, most of us will be interested in any comment Rachel has.

Will the time still be dinner time on Wednesday? 7pm Mountain time is an akward time for me in California and probably too late for the New Yorkers. Could we perhaps set up two weekly chats, one a dinner time chat, and another at a totally different time of day on another day? Although I know we cannot expect the ST folks to staff both chats, we could probably manage to talk amongst ourselves for one of them.

Hi All,

Well... I can't say that I love the new setup yet. I used to log onto the website and check messages there and I could tell where I last left off so it was easy to just read and answer the latest posts. I can see there would be some benefits to this new approach, and I'm hoping over time I'll love it, but now I'm just not there yet. I enjoyed getting messages and seeing where I last was. Although I've subscribed to certain forums here, I think the digests that come through are not that easy to read - they are just different than yahoo digests. I feel less involved this way and I feel like I'm going to miss something/messages along the way... But I'll give it my best shot! :-)

is that now that the ST! stuff is up at the top, every time Brady sees me on the board, he wants to watch ST! clips ;) Since we always used to come to the site to watch BST! clips before it came out, he knows the graphics, and he thinks I should not be reading and typing, but showing him clips and singing and signing with him :)

I love the board :) Trying to get to 25 messages to see the new avatars ;)

One of the forum-type groups I'm on has a feature where you can click a button and see what new threads have been started and have new posts since you've last been on. It's really nice, especially when there are a lot of different threads going to not have to click into each group. Any possibility of that here?

Similarly, you could also jump to new posts on thread, which was helpful when it was a really hot thread.

The new post button is lovely. It appeals to my OCD need to see every post. But it would be even better if after you have that nice list of new posts, you could simply click through them. Perhaps add a button to the bottom where there are currently "Previous Thread" and "Next Thread" so there could also be a button "Next New Post"?

Possible? ;)

I had an issue come up today of a post I wanted to make sure was read by anyone who could help. I put it in Special needs kids but I thought folks in a general audience might be able to voice an opinion or suggestion.

Is there a way to link a post to multiple threads but still have it be just one post so that the individual user, once they read it, their computer would mark it read? I don't want to paste it in numerous threads because that would be irritating for those who are reading through all the new posts to see my post again and again . . .

andrealynnj
11-09-2005, 12:30 AM
I hit New Posts and it brings up a list, but then when I click on the supposed New Post, some are new, some aren't. For example, the post on the photo award keeps coming up at the top of my list. Then if I click on it, and look at the display from thread view, there are new posts in the thead but to get to them, I have to start at the first post and click on view unread button.

I feel like I may be doing something wrong or I have a software gremlin because none of the buttons seem to do the same thing each time I press them.

andrealynnj
11-09-2005, 12:31 AM
It would also be nice to have travel buttons "Up thread" and "Down thread" so that you could move among the posts in the manner in which they are displayed in threaded mode.

I'm SO EXCITED about this forum! AND that it's a vBulletin board--YAY! I find this to be one of the most user-friendly options out there. (Depending on how it's set up, of course.)

I'm so glad I read the ST newsletter--I wouldn't have known about this otherwise, because I gave up on the Yahoo list a while ago--I just didn't have the time to read every post, or scan for ones that interested me.

THANK YOU, Rachel and everyone at Two Little Hands!

(I will say that with all the avatar/smiley/image functions turned on, it can start to look a little wild and crazy, but it also makes it fun. If it ever gets to be too much, some boards I know turn it off for some forums, and on for others, depending on 'seriousness' of topic or other criteria.)

I'm looking forward to seeing old friends, and making new ones. YAAAAY!!!!! :D :D :D

I realize i am not good on the computer, it does not come natural to me! I am not complaining, but i wish nothing had to change from how it was, i enjoyed it, and I have to actually make an effort to come here and look for stuff, and then on top of it i do not understand what to do! Ok, maybe i was complaining! Sorry. I will follow ST anywhere though!

I am one of those people who love to read the posts, but really don't have time to go through them all and my inbox was getting crazy with all the posts-even though I was on the digest format. This forum set-up is great! Now I can follow a thread and see what everyone is saying instead of reading the same post over and over in other people's attachments just to get to the meat of the discussion!

I was one of the first members of the group and I remember when there were not enough people/posts to make a dent in my inbox. Now its completely crazy. :p Signing Time is awesome and I love how it brings everyone into the discussion. I love that Rachel takes the time to respond and make everyone feel welcome too! That's really the beauty of ST. Everyone feels like family.

I have read the FAQ, but I still haven't found how to get the different topics into my own inbox. Is there a more basic sort of "how to get started" or "New Forum for Dummies" for those of us who know email basics but don't do much else online? (I hate to admit it, but I can't even send pictures over email. I have to ask my husband to do it for me...) Anyway, I'm sure it will be great once I figure it out. Thanks!!!

I have read the FAQ, but I still haven't found how to get the different topics into my own inbox.
I'm not sure what you mean by getting the topics into your inbox. With the board format, typically you view the posts on-line. They don't show up in your e-mail. Each time you go to the forums and are logged in, you will see the posts marked as new since your last visit.

Others have asked about posts that they haven't read not being marked as new any more. If you have logged in and checked posts, then the board should be tracking the ones you have read. However, if you get distracted and leave for a while, once you come back you will find that the board thinks that everything has been read. This will also happen to posts in other forums, so if you read the new posts in the General area and go away, then later the posts in BST will also show as having been read.

If you are 'subscribing' to threads, they won't be emailed to you--instead, you can go to your Control Panel page and see/manage them from there.

If you scroll up to the top if the page, you'll see the usual Signing Time bar--anything clicked there will take you out of the forums and to a Signing Time site page. Under that, you'll see a forum box with the "Welcome, [your username here]" on the right, and the name of the forum/thread you're in on the left--it's like a map of sorts, telling you where you are. Under all THAT, there's a red bar with white links, starting with "User CP"--click on that, and you're in your Control Panel page. This is your 'control center' if you want to subscribe to threads, change your avatar or signature, post or respond to private messages (a GREAT feature), etc. You can even make 'buddy' lists, or 'ignore' lists here. All the things you can do are listed down the left side of the User CP page.

I'm a lazy board user--I never subscribe to threads, or rate them or anything. I just go to whatever forum I want and read whatever thread looks interesting from there. But a very handy feature is the 'jump to first unread post' feature--if I'm returning to a forum, any thread with new posts will be in bold, and just to the left of the title will be a tiny box with a white "v" in it--click on that, and you jump to the first unread post since your last visit. It only 'works' on a 'per visit' basis, though---i.e., even if you didn't read all the 'new' posts on a visit, when you leave and come back, only the new since your LAST visit will show like that--it doesn't hold on to an unread post from two visits ago.
