A few minutes ago my daughter sat at the breakfasttable, said "Mommy" and signed water.
In the first moment I didn't recognize the sign, also it was perferctly right done - but she never signed it. :p

I didn't even know she liked pure water?!
But I gave here some and she seemed happy with that!

...I'd never knew she likes to drink water without signing...

Yes, that's really good - perhaps there could be a vegatable-theme in the next ST volumes? :p

I know one of them is going to be "food glorious food" - 13 maybe? and will have, among others, the sign for SALAD.

Oh, when I think of glorious food, it sounds more like chocolate, ice-cream, pizza and french fries to me.

Vegetables and Cereals should be named the food my mother wants me to eat... :p

Well, I guess someone needs to tell Rachel her title is all wrong! LOL J/K!

No, no, I'm sure our kids will think that everything Rachel says/signs is right! :p

While I admit to being of your mindset with respect to glorious food (ah, chocolate . . . .), I had successfully hoodwinked my daughter to prefer broccoli to ice cream. But I am losing ground as she has more exposure to other kids. Anything Rachel et all can do to reinforce the veggie cereal as "glorious foods", Hoorah!

And Imani is also a happy drinker of pure water. And yes, I think it has a lot to do with how much she likes the sign!

Alexandria also loves water. I would not have ever given it to her had she not asked for it in sign. She loves broccoli too--not because of anything I have ever done. (I don't eat it.) One day we were at a party, and she kept going up to the veggie platter and taking broccoli. Other parents were amazed at this little girl who loves to eat broccoli and brush her teeth. (Her favorite sign is "toothbrush.") :D

LOL I hate broccoli too, and I never serve it, but my 8 y/o loves it - she brings her lunch to school but when broccoli is on the hot lunch menu, she goes around to the other kids and gets them to give her their broccoli!

My ds used to LOVE to eat part of my liver and onions (mmmm, yummy!), but then yesterday we went out to eat, and he ate mostly the things he knew signs for (fish, beans, potatoes) . . . so I'm rooting for liver to be in the "food, glorious food category" <nudge, nudge, wink> I'm probably on a short list of people who like that stuff, though. :)

Also, it always amazes me how often Carson asks for water. I read the books/websites that directed to always encourage whole milk, but he really prefers water. I need to look up and see whether it's still a big deal now that he's sixteen months, but at eleven months, it made me feel a little guilty to give him water pretty nearly every time he asked for it . . . even though I was still nursing him and probably worrying too much about it. But boy, he still just smacks his lips when he drinks his water . . . it makes me enjoy water more, too!

Come to think of it, I enjoy everything more since he came into my life . . .

I am definitely not in the liver and onions crowd!!! But we are big water drinkers in our house, too. As for the milk, though, it's been reiterated to me many times that kids (over one year and on solid foods) shouldn't drink more than 16 ounces of milk (or formula) a day (2 cups), as if they do drink more, they will probably not be taking in as much (or as large of a variety) of the foods they need on a daily basis. Same goes for no more than 4-6 ounces of juice a day (half or three-quarters of a cup). Breastmilk, on the other hand, still falls into the all you can drink category since no food or drink can match it. Hope that eases some of your guilt!!!

Daytona just LOVES salad...of course, maybe it's really the dressing she loves, but hey, if it helps her eat her veggies, I'm not complaining.

As for signing salad, it would look like this.
Curved open five hands, palms up, pinkies closest to your body, and gently toss your hands in the air as if you are the salad being tossed (tossed salad). Make sense? Salad smiles, ReBecca:p

Oh, yes, my daughter loves to brush her teeth, too - she's always very amazed, when Baby-Alex and -Leah brush their teeth in BST at the beginning of the Sleep Song! :)

BTW: Hi to ReBecca, I didn't notice you here before! :) :)

It just takes a little more focus on my part to remember to check the boards here as opposed to my emails! But I am here! Smiles,

Thankfully my partner likes the stuff so Imani knows and enjoys it but I can barely sit at the table when they are macking down on it. EEK (shudder) I am grateful that my daughter can enjoy more of life's good things than I can.

But still, I don't see how liver could ever be GLORIOUS. I mean, it doesn't much look the part, does it? : )

Well, I'm not too crazy about plain old boiled liver, but I like it fried up all crispy and tasty--YUM!

I have a friend from Slovakia that gave me a Hungarian liver recipe that's really terrific. You sear about a pound of chicken liver and a big sweet onion in a bit of olive oil and add a couple of tablespoons of really good Hungarian paprika (you can tell if it's good stuff if it smells pungent when you open it. If it doesn't have much of a smell, then it won't flavor the meat very well. Until this friend told me, I didn't even know there was a difference. ) Then you boil it in a couple of cups of chicken broth until it's like a nice, rich stew. (You can also use half broth and half milk). Serve it over rice (I like to boil my rice in chicken broth, too!) with a big dollop of sour cream on top. Oooo, now, that's glorious food! :p

mmmm, I've been wondering today what I'd cook for supper. I wish I could send you some to see if you and yours would like it!
