It pours them too!!!

A few days back I had posted that my daughter had finally gotten "Signing Time" down. I was so excited. Now we've added like 8 more signs and I"m just in awe. I knew she knew what I meant if I used them, but to see her use them now...WOW!

Now I just hope we dont' have so many signs that when Daddy gets back, he wont' be able to catch up...

WOW! What are her new signs?

Tree
Beautiful
Surprised
Snow
Hat
Silly
Scared
Stop

I know there is more I just have to watch her a bit and see which she does...I should keep a notepad with them on there.

I feel like such a geek but it's no neat to watch the development.

Congratulations! As they first start to sign back it is so exciting to watch them finally get it. It's also fun to try and figure out which signs they are making. Sometimes it is pretty challenging! And if you're a geek, so am I. I think it's great that you are having so much fun with your little girl.

I just noticed she did grass and bird, banana, gloves, boots and hat...I"m just shocked. I'm glad to know that others get as excited, and I"m glad to know she is doing so well with this!!

Congratulations!! I keep an excel spreadsheet of Daniel's signing vocabulary! I too am in awe witnessing my son's development. His ability to sign and communicate to me has shown me there is quite and active and smart little brain at work in his cute little head.

Hee hee, I thought I was the only one who kept a spreadsheet! Guess that is what this forum is for - showing us we're not alone!

Cool idea! How is the spreadsheet better than just keeping a list on, say Word? I might have to try that!

I keep track of when I first demonstrated the sign, when she understood the sign, and when she reproduced the sign, because there are some signs she "knows" but doesn't actively sign. I told you, I am a huge nerd!

wow Aly! You are detailed!!

I decided on an excel spreadsheet so that I could easily alphabetize the list. Plus it is already numbered for me. In retrospect I wish I had added the dates of when I first saw Daniel use the sign. Some of them I do have listed in his baby book.

Well, I mostly have them by month (as in "I know she could do that at Thanksgiving so I'll put November" not necessarily by exact DATE, though if I know it I put it in!

Hope someone else finds it useful - I used it a lot to prove to people that Anyka was totally on target mentally - that it was only a physical inability to make words that was holding her back.

It is so good to write things like that down even if your little one seems to be "right on track." My little sister (the 5th of 5 kids) had some learning problems that didn't show up until after she reached school. The specialists working with her kept asking my mom things like "At what age did she first smile?" They wanted an answer in months--not "Before age 1, I think." I have a journal that I started keeping a couple of weeks before I got pregnant with the twins. It is so fun to go back and read about their development from the beginning.

When the regional center people came to prepare for Imani assessment, they asked all sorts of questions. I brought out her little book so I could find the milestones and they weren't there! I filled the book with all sorts of funny moments and stories but many milestones I simply didn't write down. And I was so sure I had! Must have been the sleeplessness.

This is the funniest! I love it! And Imani is totally adorable. Did I see you at the BST shoot last March? I thought I recognized your daughter.

Oh yeah...I'm a list keeper. I wanted to have them down so I could mention it to the pediatician. I was shocked when I hit 80. At his age (was at his 18 month checkup last month) she said he should be saying 5-10 words. I think he verbally does this, but since he can do / understand 80 signs I consider that his vocabulary too!

I get SO excited when he does new ones. It's so wonderful! ST is just the greatest thing!!! I hope he stays interested in it. I want sign to be his second language!

I'm so thankful for Rachel and all she's done!!

It seems to be raining signs around my house all of a sudden, too. My daughter Jaina turned 1 two weeks ago. Since that time, she has added a ton of new signs, perfected a few (MORE going from clapped fists to the actual sign), linked more signs together, and even added a new spoken word. She's started using the signs much more often, now asking to EAT, asking for HELP, asking for MORE, etc. and signing WHERE BABY HAT to put her doll's hat on and THANK YOU DADDY when he fed her some cereal instead of the acorn squash that she apparently didn't want.

All of a sudden, our little signer is up to about 35 words, instead of 20!! She has even started signing CHRISTMAS TREE since we put up our tree and showed her the sign. I am so excited over her progress, I just had to share!!

I am certain this has been addressed before (I know on the ST list before it moved here) but is there a master list of ST signs? I really need to utilize it tonight in a letter to the school board.

Sincerely,
ReBecca:o
