I sign COMPLAIN or GRUMPY--as in "GRUMPY STOP" or "COMPLAIN STOP." This does not work with my 22 month-old twins. However, it works for me to mimic their behavior. If my hearing daughter is crying despite having a fresh diaper, full tummy, and a good night's rest I start crying much like "Lucy Ricardo" from the old "I Love Lucy" show. It's kind of fun to do. Just tilt your head back and let out "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" for as long as feels necessary, usually until Alexandria starts laughing. This has never failed to work when nothing was really wrong. (One time Alexandria had pooped just after a diaper change, and so it didn't work.) With my Deaf daughter, Cassia, we have to mimic her facial expression. She will sit there with a huge frown and her lower lip jutting out just as far as it will go. I stick my lower lip out farther and farther until it is out so far that my lower teeth start to show. If it hasn't worked by then I touch my lower lip to her lower lip, and that has worked every time. It is funny to watch her try to keep her lower lip out while trying to keep from smiling. :( becomes :) :D
