We have been signing with our 1 year old daughter since she was 5 months old. She seems to recognize & react to lots of signs that we do, but she only uses the "more" sign herself - and she uses it for everything - milk, more, eat, cat, book, etc. This has been going on for about a month...

We try to model the correct signs, but she just wants to keep using the one sign she knows. We just started with the Baby Signing time DVD's this week & she loves them.

Has anyone else had this type of situation, or any ideas on how we could encourage her to explore using the other signs that she knows?

Thanks

Don't worry! She's only a baby! Just as speaking babies often use (for example) - "Ba" - can mean bath, baby, dog, bottle, blanket... same concept. Be consistent and she will follow!

BTW love your name! Cate!

Cassidy's only sign for a long time was 'more' and she used it for everything too and she was 2 1/2. Give her time, she's only little. Cass caught on to the other signs once we started watching 'signing time'. It took a week or two or maybe more. I was so excited when she signed 'milk' and that's what she actually wanted! If you watch it, the signs will come!
