Anyone have signs for these? We stumped our ASL teacher. I saw a sign for "chip" on the aslpro sight, but was wondering if that was the food or like a chip out of a glass.

Thanks! :)

The sign that I know for chip is done similar to the sign CAN'T. The nondominant hand is the same (index finger pointing to the side), but the dominant hand is in a "C" handshape instead. This could be a SEE sign, but I'm not sure. I usually see people just fingerspell chip as a loan sign.

I don't usually get chicken nuggets, but I would assume that you just sign chicken and then use an "F" classifier to signify something small and round. Alexandria likes to eat them, and so I should add this sign to my vocabulary--if it exists.

I leanred chips like this:

Non-dominant hand open b (flat, fingers together but thumb out). Palm faces in at chest height. This represents your "bag". The your domonant hand, f shape, goes from hand to mout like taking chips from a bag and eating them.

We sign chips like POTATO, and with context, it's understood that we're talking about potato chips

Chicken nuggets: we sign chicken, and then a classifier to show the shape of a small nugget.

Bill Vicars has a custom sign for "potato chip" discussed on his web site. I thought it was pretty good. Basically, you make a fist, palm down with your left hand to represent a potato, and a "C" shape with your right hand. Scrape your right thumb along the back of your left fist a couple of times to represent slicing the potato into chips!

He does a better job of discribing/illustrating it on this page.
