Did you see this story, linked from www.lds.org? Kind of neat! I had a high school friend who went on a signing mission and I was always so jealous!

:) First I'd like to say signing time has made ASL easier for me to apply in my life. With meaning for sign to go with the motion like "RED" lips are red and pull down. For me that was great it has a way of sticking when in school after the test it was gone lost in my mind never to be seen or signed again LOL. When I was a child my parents did not know I had lost almost all my hearing till I was 6. I read lips most all the time and had a older brother who did all the talking for me. How I wish I would of been able to sign then.
We found out about signing time through my best friend Coley whose son Noah has CP and loves signing time. My family and I wanted to be better able to communicate with Noah and wanted our kids to learn a second language so we got the signing time dvds . Our youngest is Nicholas who is 15 months and as been watching signing time since birth. Though the amazing power of signing time he has been communicating with us since he was 6 months old. It brought our family closer together since we can all understand his needs. He was preemie and we where told could be behind in speech. thanks to signing time this did not affect him at all matter of fact he has advanced past older children. Now on to our oldest son Joshua seeing the benefits of sign with Nicholas makes us really wish we would of had it with Josh. when we were pregnant with Josh we were told he would have tri18. I'm overjoyed to say he was not. Although the whole time we were pregnant we prepared to meet his needs in any way he would need. He was born fine and turned out to be faulty testing although he did develop a very bad reaction to dairy at about 5 months he lost his hearing. and stayed that way till he was almost 3. If I only knew then what I know now signing would of made a world of difference with him and our relationship. Not communicating with him all that time had a lasting affect form behavior issues to emotional. after many bouts with tubes and a strict diet Josh can hear again although he will always have a slight loss of hearing in both ears.
I think ever parent should sign with children it opens windows to there mind you never knew you could open at such a young age. I only wish they would offer ASL in school as much as they do other languages. ASL is such a beautiful way of communications. We recommend signing time to every one i don't think theres a day that goes by that a member of our family dose not mention it.
Thank you so much for all your work my day would not be anywhere near what they are with out signing time we feel like Alex and Leah are parts of the family too.

Neat story. I actually started learning ASL from sister missionaries. We had a Deaf Branch that met in our building when I lived in Michigan. I always had a hope to be called to serve an ASL mission. Didn't happen though as I got married just before turning 21. :) Thanks for sharing.
