If I am not mistaken birthday is a regional sign. so, it can vary from place to place. I know I have seen. Sign "Happy"
"birth" "day". In OK the sign for birthday is palm facing toward you finger tips up and middle finger touches your chin first then touches your chest right below the hollow part of your throat. I am not sure if this is any help.

I was taught the same way as Stacey.

Here in MO, we sign "birthday" with the middle finger from chin to chest (or heart). In that book "What's Your Sign for Pizza" the discuss signs that have many regional variants; birthday is one of those that has many!

I have also been taught in my sign classes with middle finger to chin and then to chest. Like the first demonstration link a few post earlier.

Place your index finger at your lips and blow as if you are blowing out a candle.

I have also seen it here signed exactly the same as "music/sing" + "day"

I was taught two ways:

1. Sign "happy", then blow out candle (which is the "one" hand shape), then sign "day".

2. Sign "happy", then sign "birth" like this: non-dominant hand and arm parallel to the ground in front of you (like you were about to sign "day"), then the dominant hand "dives" under it, and comes up and out the other side, ending with palm facing out; then sign "day". (The birth sign is hard to describe, and I can't find an example of it on line... must be a regional thing??)
