How do you sign Koala? Nathan has a puzzle with a koala and he keeps asking me the sign and when I just sign bear he says no, probably because it doesn't look like a bear so now I need that darn sign.

In the US Koala is often fingerspelled. But I figured that AUSLAN would have a sign for it and sure enough they do! I guess they runinto many more Koala's there than we do here in the US.
The Australian Sign Language sign for Koala is very similar to our BEAR sign. Cross your arms over your chest and "scratch" using "V's or 2's

One time during story time the reader (a Deaf woman) cupped her hand (fingers verticle, middle fingertip at the bridge of the nose) over her nose to show the big oval nose of the koala. She also opened her eyes really wide whenever she made the sign. I figured that's how it is done in ASL, but she might have made it up for the kids.
