for all of you in the area. I just found out I'm going to do my first story time ( introducing sign) at the Grantsville Library on March 16th at 4pm. We'll see how it goes but we want to turn it into my own Signing Time (I don't know what name to call it, not sure if Signing Time is ok) instead of just a guest at story time. wish me luck, and come if you can. JaLyn:)

Good luck! Wish I was closer, but I think Ohio's a bit far... Have fun with it! (I know you will! :p )

How is that for a name?
Our main library has a deaf services center and a children's library with a little theatre for story time, yet, as far as I know, there is no Sign a Story there. I will speak with the director of deaf services and see if I can get her interested in doing such a program once a week.
Thanks for the idea!

That's a great name. I'm going to have to keep a list of names and when I get my own time I'll pick from the list. JaLyn:)

I call my programs "Signing Story Time". I couldn't come up with anything different or "cute". But then I figured with a straight forward name, there would be no question as to the nature of the program.

Out here it is simply called ASL Story Time at Barnes and Noble. I like that it specifies that ASL will be used.

First, also congratulations on the little one due May 30th!! I hope all is going smoothly and comfortably. :)
So, how'd the story time go on the 16th? Did any of the ST folks make it?
Inquiring minds always want to know! ;)

I thought it went great!
She read the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see?" and then she let the kids take turns holding the pictures of the animals and signing their parts. Then we sang "The Rainbow Song", which made my son extremely happy because that's his favorite song :) . For a craft we made clouds with a rainbow hanging down on it and then the kids were given a fruit snack for a treat.
It seems like the kids loved it and the mom's enjoyed it. I know that at least one mom asked the librarian if JaLyn was going to come back and another mom expressed her disappointment that she missed it at the regular story time yesterday.
The librarian said that JaLyn was going to do another one on April 20th. Is that right?

I was so nervous that noone was going to like it but I have goten good feed back and so , yes, on the 20th we are going to do it again. the librarian wants to repeat colors so we'll do a different book, game, same song (i think) and different craft but reeally try to get the colors down. I want to do it about once a month and want to do family, feelings, foods, cloths, just about anything ST has a song for. so hopefullly we'll keep haveing interest. the librarian is great to work with and she does most of the prep. and hard work, I just show up and have fun. Thanks for the fead back and for the congrats with the baby:) JaLyn:)
