I just heard about this story today...happened not too long ago...Here is a video clip that shows an autistic boy, who had been the manager for his high school team, then getting to play for a few minutes on senior night...he ended up scoring 20 points in the last 4 min of the basketball game.
If you're anything like me, grab a tissue before watching!!!!

Definately an amazing video!! Gives us all inspiration....especially those of us who have children with special needs. Reminds me of "Angels in the Outfield".

This is such a good lesson for all parents of children with special needs. Give them the opportunity to try something, and they just might surprise you.

Jason McElwain, aka "J-Mac," is from the town of Greece in Rochester, New York. And yes, he did score 20 points in the last 4 minutes of his high school basketball game on Senior Night.
Jason has been the manager of the Greece Athena basketball team for the past 3 years and the coach decided that on Senior Night it would be a chance for Jason to do something fun...no one knew that he would actually help his team win the game that night...
More stories on Jason McElwain and his family can be found on the website for our local newspaper, www.DemocratandChronicle.com (http://www.democratandchronicle.com/) and on our local news station www.news10nbc.com (http://www.news10nbc.com/). Just place a search using Jason's name and the date of February 15, 2006.
Rumor here in Rochester is that Jason has several offers from production agents to buy the rights to his story for an upcoming movie...even from Disney!!! Also, our local grocery store chain, Wegmans, is currently selling "J-Mac" T-Shirts for Autism Awareness where the proceeds go directly to Autism research.
I wish Jason a lot of luck with his story and best wishes as he continues on with his education.:)

I never get tired hearing this story. I think the coach is a great example to the rest of the country -- we need more people like him who find ways to include kids with special needs.
Also, the fact that J-Mac's classmates are so supportive shows that the school really promotes inclusion too!
