Infants
Infants can communicate before they can talk with baby sign language. You no longer need to guess what your baby is trying to tell you. She can let you know she wants milk using sign language, instead of crying. Babies can sign; before most babies talk they wave bye-bye and blow kisses. Baby signing is a natural extension of these gestures. Hearing babies benefit from baby sign language because it supports early brain development and builds pre-literacy skills. Studies show that infants who learn sign language score 8-12 points higher than their non-signing peers, when tested after second grade. Sign language for babies and toddlers helps them develop speech sooner. Infant sign language does not discourage speech; it actually encourages speech because signs are reinforced with the sound of the words, repetition and music.
Baby Signing Time uses American Sign Language (ASL), not made up signs. You do not need to become fluent in ASL. Even learning two or three key vocabulary words like ‘more,’ ‘milk’ and ‘juice’ will be beneficial! Every time you sign with your baby, reinforce the sign with the sound of the word, to help your baby make a connection between sounds and signs. Baby ASL is easy for parents and children to learn; Signing Time uses a multi-sensory approach in which children see the word, hear the word, say the word, model the word with their hands.
Encourage language development by incorporating it into your daily routine. You can sign "milk" to your newborn when it's time to nurse or feed with a bottle. Sign "sleep" at nap and bedtime. Take your baby's hands and help her sign "more" in-between each spoonful of food. Infant signs will also help your infant realize that crying is not the only way to communicate.
Baby Signing Time sets your baby's day to music as you learn signs and songs for everyday events in baby's life such as eating, washing hands, sleep time, family members, pets, and more. The format of this program is a combination of original songs, animation, and real signing babies and toddlers demonstrating each sign. Baby Signing Time makes signing easy and fun; Baby Signing Time is designed for children three years old and younger. The Baby Sign Language Starter Kit can jump start your child’s language development, as you practice baby sign language basics together. She will learn to tell you she is hungry, thirsty, all done as well as many other concepts. The kit includes It’s Baby Signing Time Volume 1 DVD, CD and flash cards.
