Many people in recent years have begun to discover the benefits of teaching sign language to young, hearing children. The ability to sign often softens the transition for babies who are too young to be able to speak, but may become easily frustrated when they can’t communicate what they want. Learning to sign has also been proven effective for children with special needs including autism and Down syndrome. For some children, signing is an easier form of communicating than speaking, and gives them more alternatives for expressing themselves.
