Food

For little children, learning sign language is most fun when they learn words that they can use every day.  Some of the American Sign Language signs that children love to learn most are food related, because they can practice their signs at every meal!  Food terms are also some of the most common signs learned by babies who are too young to speak.

In the Baby Signing Time Series, Baby Signing Time Vol. 1: It’s Baby Signing Time – DVD introduces several signs that will be helpful for babies and their parents.  It’s Baby Signing Time teaches ASL signs for Eat, Drink, Water, Cracker, Cereal, Milk, Banana, Juice, Finished, and most importantly, More.  For toddlers learning sign language, Signing Time’s Vol. 1: My first Signs - DVD begins teaching food terms including ASL signs for Eat, Food, Milk and Water.  Vol. 3:  Everyday Signs – DVD builds from there, teaching signs for Hungry, Apple, Cookie, Bread, Cheese, Ice-Cream, Full, and Don’t Like, among others.  To expand your child’s sign language vocabulary, Vol. 12:  Time to Eat – DVD focuses exclusively on food and eating terms. Time To Eat teaches signs for cooking, eating, setting the table, meals of the day, favorite foods and much more.
