Introducing: “Sign of the Week”, a new regular feature

We’re happy to present to you our “Sign of the Week”,ย  a new regular feature on this blog!

Parents and educators have frequently asked us to share just one sign that they can work on each week. Now ANYONE can have fun learning ASL signs with Rachel, Alex, and Leah by simply subscribing to this blog.

Feel free to spread the word!

Beginning this week, every Tuesday in 2010, we’ll post a video clip that teaches one ASL sign from Signing Time or Baby Signing Time. You’ll also be able to download and print the corresponding Flash Card image.

We hope you will enjoy this new weekly feature in our efforts to share Signing Time and ASL with families everywhere.

This week’s sign comes from:

Baby Signing Time Vol. 1 – It’s Baby Signing Time

Baby’s first step into signing! The Baby Signing Time Series combines clever songs, animation, and real signing babies – all age two and under – to make signing easy and fun. This is the first DVD in the Baby Signing Time series.

One review By Autumn Harrion states:” Love it! I have always had a passion for ASL and took every college course I could on the language and culture. When I became a mother I knew I wanted to pass Sign Language onto my children. I started signing with my son from the moment he was born, though his hearing was fine. We got this DVD for his first birthday for car trips as they have become a struggle for him. He was instantly engaged and within a week was signing more and more. He is now 18 months old and knows nearly 50 signs and understands way more. These have been a blessing to me. Thank you so much for this amazing product as well as sharing with us your heart! I am truly blessed!”

  1. Hello and Thank YOU!

I am absolutely thrilled that you have begun this new feature to your program. Thank you so very much. My special needs child does have a few signs, but would do more when I learn more.

This new weekly feature will be great reminder to me and will benefit both of us.
Thank you so very much for putting this together.

    My child will sign…
ThereseAnn, mom to Natalia, living with full trisomy 13 – 9 yrs.

  2. So excited about this! My speech impaired children benefit so much from learning signs – gives them so much more confidence when expressing their needs and wants! We may not always understand their verbal communication, but when given the skill of signing… the sky is the limit! My four year old is getting much more proficient verbally, but he still uses the signs he has learned! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for this regular feature!

  3. Thanks so much for this new feature! I love the flash card download option too! That is so great. My girls love making little books – and this would be perfect to let them make a little book for themselves of signs! Thanks Signing Time!!!

  4. Thank you for keeping me renewed!
I babysit two 6 month olds and two toddlers. Every day I give out my daily notes sheet which contains a “signs to remember” section. After doing this for more than a year, I have trouble deciding on which signs to focus on.
You have know done the brain work for me. And even better, I can have the parents sign up for the e-mails and they will get a better understanding of what the sign is!
Thanks for making my job easier! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. What’s funny is my son has been watching signing times since he was 8 months and now he is 22 months. The past few weeks he has been like a sponge and repeating back to us a lot of the signs. And yesterday he finally did “eat!” I asked him today if he wanted to eat lunch and he jumped up all excited and said “eat eat” and signed it all the way to the kitchen! I love teaching him and we so love your videos!

  6. I am so glad to find your web site. I had no ideal that this could help children improve their IQ scores by 12 percent. I have a granddaughter who is 80 percent deaf in both ears, and may loose the other 20 percent of her hearing. Now the schoolboard in doing her IEP’s said there is a chance she will go blind cause of nerve damage being so great where eyes and ears connect. Patience Speech Teacher told us last year there was things on ASL that we could pull up and help this baby learn before she starts school. We hope for the best, but we have to prepare her for the worst if it happens. I’m very pleased with your sight, I hope to get DVD tapes to be able to help this child and other grandchildren. Sincerely-Linda L. Thomas
