I just wanted to share a little video showing how much your program has helped our granddaughter. She’s a huge fan of Signing Time. She has learned an incredible amount of signs (as has the whole family!) Knowing all of the Signing Time ASL signs has meant that her toddler years are much freer from frustration because she can communicate her needs to us. And it’s given her little growing brain the challenges that she loves. We can’t be more appreciative of what this program has brought to all of our lives. The funny thing is that we didn’t even realize that she was picking up the finger spelling, too! Our Story
In December of 1996, Rachel Coleman and her husband, Aaron, welcomed their first daughter, Leah, into the world. At the time, Rachel was writing music and performing with her folk rock band. When Leah was fourteen months old, they discovered She was profoundly deaf.
To say the least, their world turned upside down. Rachel’s priorities instantly changed. She put down her guitar and picked up sign language. She and her husband immediately started teaching American Sign Language (ASL) to Leah as fast as they could learn it. Something remarkable happened: by the time Leah was 18 months old, her baby sign language vocabulary far surpassed the spoken vocabulary of “hearing” children her same age.
Shortly after Signing Time was created to help all parents and children better communicate. Our vision of the world is one in which all children – regardless of their abilities – can express themselves, feel valued and understood, and be supported in achieving their full potential.
