Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign down in ASL

  • Learning directional words and the concept of opposites is important to a child’s development! The classic game for preschool “Simon Says” lends itself very well to this. Play the game using opposites like “sit down”, “stand up” and integrate the signs into the directions Simon says to do.
  • Encourage your child to use vocabulary for what they are doing. You can model this by saying things like, “You wend down the slide! Yay!” Use the sign as you go.
