Library in Sign Language
Learn how to sign library in ASL (American Sign Language) – it is one of the most important public buildings you can visit with your child!
1. Make the letter L with one hand (Extend the pointer finger up and the thumb out, tuck the rest of the fingers into the palm).
2. Circle the L-shaped hand in front of you a couple of times.
3. A library is a great place to go to a story circle! Use this visual to help you remember the sign.
Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign library in ASL
- Learning to sign is fun when you can go on location! Visit the local library and allow your child to get her very own library card (they will often give them to even the smallest members!). Then teach her how to choose some special books to bring home. Sign library lots of times while you’re there!
- Find a local library with a great children’s room and spend some time there on a cold or rainy day. You might make some new friends (and you can teach them how to sign library!), and your child will also be learning to equate libraries and books with a fun time.
