S in Sign Language

Learn how to sign the letter S – it’s an easy one!

1. Hold one hand up at about chest height and make a fist, palm facing out.
2. This sign looks a little like you are holding up a stone – S is for stone! Use this cue to help you remember the sign.

Teaching Tips:

  • Create the letter S by bending a pipe cleaner into the shape of the letter. Then glue the letter to a piece of paper. Trace the pipe cleaner letter with your finger, say the letter, and practice the sign. This activity gives extra tactile feedback when learning the shape of and name of the letter! Use it with any other letter you want to practice too!
  • Games for kindergarten kids that teach the alphabet are a cornerstone of early learning.
