Star in Sign Language
Learn how to sign star in ASL (American Sign Language). Twinkle-twinkle!
- Extend both pointer fingers and tuck the rest of the fingers into the palms.
- Place the pointers next to one another up near your head and to one side.
- Brush them back and forth as you guide your hands from one side to the other.
- This sign looks like twinkling stars all across the sky. Use this visual to help you remember the sign.
Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign star in ASL
- Sing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” together and sign star each time it appears in the song.
- Sign language with babies and children can be fun to do at bedtime too. Read books all about the night, going to bed, etc. Each time a star appears in the illustration, sign star together.

Star. With both pointers, point up toward the stars and slide your fingers back and forth. Are you pointing toward the stars in the sky? Star.
