Let’s Celebrate Our Little Ones on National Children’s Day

Did you know there’s a day dedicated to celebrating the joy and wonder of childhood? The second Sunday in June is National Children’s Day, and it’s the perfect opportunity to make sure our little ones feel truly seen, loved, and celebrated. It’s similar to the idea of Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, but you don’t need expensive gifts or big plans. Remember, our kids really appreciate simple things and quality time. So it won’t take much to celebrate our little ones on National Children’s Day. Here are some simple and fun ways to celebrate National Children’s Day with your child.

Words: Tell Them Why They’re Special

Our words are powerful with our kids. So let’s take a few minutes to come up with a note or a card or something special to say to our kids. We can tell them what we love most about them or why they are special to our family. Even if they are too young to read, having something in their hands will still mean so much to them, and you can read it to them. Or maybe you could record a short video for them. And it’s always great to just tell them out loud.

And hey, maybe you could learn some signs to express your appreciation to your kids? Check out our free Signing Time Dictionary for some ideas for signing your feelings or some basic actions.

With a little extra effort, you could make a poster or a booklet where each person in your family adds a drawing or a note to celebrate our little ones.

Have a “Yes Day”

The idea of a “Yes Day” has become really popular, so why not apply it to a National Children’s Day Celebration? And any “Yes Day” can, of course, be within reason for what your family can actually do. So within your parameters, let your child take the lead in planning their special day. It could be pancakes for dinner, a living room dance party, or the option to wear pajamas all day. Anytime we give our kids choices, big or small, it makes them feel valued and teaches them about choices. Plus, it adds some fun and childishness to the day.

We can set some simple boundaries ahead of time to keep it manageable. But let’s try to say “yes” more than we usually do. Even little “yes” moments can feel like magic to our kids.

Make Some Memories Together

It doesn’t take much to make a memory with our kids. Some of the best memories happen during simple activities. Think about things like backyard picnics, family games or puzzles, or a walk or a hike together. It’s really all about doing things together. So again, let’s think about how to celebrate our little ones by spending some simple time together.

Celebrate the things they love

What lights your child up? Whether it’s dinosaurs, painting, building, baking, or bugs—make a part of the day center on what your kid really loves. When we show interest in their interests, we build their confidence and deepen our connection with them. It’s a great way to celebrate our little ones on National Children’s Day.

So remember, more than anything, our children want our time. So even if your day is packed, see if you can take just 30 minutes of intentional time with your kiddo. It will mean the world to our kids for us to do this. They will remember the effort and the fun, even if it’s just one game or a short time.

Just like Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, National Children’s Day is a good reminder to slow down and celebrate the incredible little ones in our lives. It doesn’t require perfection – just our presence.

So whether you write a card, dance in the kitchen, or simply snuggle up for a story, the love and attention you give will stay with your kids.
