"WHAT KIDS KNOW" FACTS

Have your child share a fact or something they’ve learned about the topic(s) listed below.

Example: “I know rainbows have the colors; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet!”

We’ve included the episode topics below with a few suggestions. You can also research the topics and share your own findings. We want the submissions varied and authentic!

Video submissions are limited to children aged 9 and under.

Can you submit videos of your child for more than one episode? YES!! If your child loves performing and your camerawork looks great, we hope to share “familiar faces” with our viewers.

 

Manners

Show us What kids know about…

  • Tell us what you know about using “Magic Words”:

    • The magic words: “Please,” “Thank you,” ”Sorry”,  “May I”, “Excuse me,” and “No thank you”

    • Using magic words makes other people feel good

    • When we ask for something we say “Please”, when someone gives us something, we say “Thank You”.

    • What should you say if you walk in front of someone? You say “Excuse me.”

    • Magic words “I’m Sorry”? When should you say that?

    • The magic words: “Please,” “Thank you,” ”Sorry”,  “May I”, “Excuse me,” and “No thank you”

  • Tell us how you use your manners. Examples:

    • “At dinner time, we wash our hands and sit up straight at the table. And we know that it’s not polite to talk with our mouths full.”

    • “When we play together, everyone has a good time when we share, and are polite to each other.”

    • “When we are playing with our friends, it is not polite to whisper about someone who is nearby, because it might hurt their feelings.”

    • “It is not polite to interrupt someone who is trying to talk.”

    • “Everyone likes a person who has good manners. Good manners make everyone happy and make you a person who is nice to know.”

    • “Moving over so someone can sit down is called sharing.”

  • Show us how you use your manners. Examples:

    • Say please and thank you

    • Hold the door open for people

    • If you bump into someone, say you are sorry

    • Cover your mouth when you sneeze

    • Be on time

    • Sit properly

    • Clean up after you make a mess

    • Use respect when talking to adults

    • Don’t interrupt

    • Wait your turn

    • Don’t make fun of anyone

    • Give compliments

    • Use kind words

    • Wash your hands before you eat food

    • Place your napkin on your lap

    • Chew with your mouth closed

    • Be patient

Feelings

Show us What kids know about…

  • Tell us what you know about feelings.
  • Tell us (and show us!) how you feel. Examples:
    • I feel (insert feeling) when (insert circumstance)
    • When I feel (insert feeling) I know what to do!
    • “I was walking to school and saw a butterfly and it made me so happy!”
    • “But then it started raining and I didn’t have my umbrella and that made me angry.”
  • Show us some “feelings” themed art.
  • Get creative!
  • Demonstrate any of the following signs:
    • EXCITED

Clean Hands

Show us What kids know about…

  • Show us how you wash your hands with soap and running water
  • Show us how you dry your hands with a clean towel
  • Show us your dirty hands
  • Show us your clean hands
  • Show us how you use hand sanitizer
  • Get creative!
  • Demonstrate any of the following signs:
    • CLEAN
    • DIRTY
    • SOAP
    • WATER
    • WASH HANDS
  • Covering your mouth when you sneeze
  • Show us this 5 step process:
    • Wet your hands with warm, running water
    • Lather up with SOAP all over your hands, don’t forget the back of your hands, in between your fingers, and under your fingernails.
    • SCRUB your hands for at least 20 seconds…say the alphabet slowly or sing the LOOK AT MY HANDS song!
    • Rinse your hands well under the warm, running water
    • DRY your hands using a clean towel

Grandparents:

Show us What Kids Know about…

  • Introduce us to your grandparents
  • Show us pictures of your grandparents
  • Show us if you have a family tree and tell us about it
  • Tell us if you have special names for grandparents (i.e. “I call my grandparents Nana and Pop Pop!”)
  • Get creative!
  • Demonstrate any of the following signs:

Healthy Eating:

  • Juggling fruit
  • Show us what you know about the food pyramid/5 a day
  • Show us your favorite fruits and/or vegetables
  • Show us how you eat your favorite fruits and/or vegetables
  • Show us how you try eating new, fruits and vegetables that may be unfamiliar
  • What do healthy foods do for our bodies? (ex: They make us strong, and fast, and smart, etc.)
  • Get creative!
  • Demonstrate any of the following signs:

  • Show us what you know about different types of seasons: Summer, Spring, Fall, Winter
  • Tell us about  your favorite type of weather or season and why
  • Tell us why you love sunny days and why
  • Show us what  you wear for sunny weather: Sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.
