  1. When I heard in May that Klamath Falls Early Childhood Intervention was going to host a literacy fair, I immedetialy researched how to bring Signing Time to our community and began the fundraising. Over the course of the summer, all the efforts of the long hours of different fundraising projects, paid off. Rachel just finished her performance for all the children and their families at “Show me a Sign” Early Childhood Literacy Fair. It was an incredible experience. The children just absolutely adore her. Especially mine! There was even an elderly lady who came to see Rachel for the first time. She recently found out she is losing her hearing and soon to be deaf. Every place she went in town, she kept seeing all the posters I put up for the fair. And felt it was a sign and thought she should act upon it. Seeing Rachel’s performance opened new doors for her, she felt so blessed that there was hope to communicate after she lost her hearing completely. It had brought tears to her eyes expressing this to me. I also shared with her my story. If it wasn’t for Signing Time (Rachel, Leah, Alex and Hopkins) I don’t think that my 4 year old autistic son would be talking today. During those developmental stages when your child should talk, mine did not. It got to the point that I didn’t know what his wants and needs were without that communication. So I decided to take a big chance (not ever hearing of Signing Time before) and order all Volume 1 dvds. I am SO glad that I did. After signing here and there for the last 2 years, Mason is verbal. I think Rachel is just an amazing woman that has given so many the gift of communication. I thank her so much for that. It was a very heartfelt day. Now to see what Saturdays Early Childhood Conference brings us.

April 2009 is Child Abuse Prevention Month and we have several events happening in Klamath during the month. One event is scheduled for April 30th on the steps of the Klamath County Courthouse and we would like to have someone experienced in American Sign Language present at that time. Any information or leads would be appreciated. For more details please contact me.

    Respectfully,
    Michael Kaibel
