Signing Time Academy Classes

Why I love being a Signing Time Academy Instructor!

In 2019 we celebrate 10 Years of the Signing Time Academy. We asked our Instructors to share why they love being a Signing Time Academy Instructor. Baby Signing Time Instructor, Christine Theoret gave three reasons why she loves being an Instructor:  I get to meet new people and tell them all about Rachel Coleman, her family, and the amazing benefits of teaching ASL with Two Little Hands products to their children and infants.  The most rewarding part of learning ASL and being a Baby Signing Time Instructor is knowing my children are growing up learning about an amazing culture and language. As …

Signing Time Instructors are Making a Difference

There are Signing Time Academy Instructors around the world providing parent workshops, baby sign language classes, teacher training, signing clubs, play groups, home parties, and free presentations. We love sharing some of the amazing things they are doing. Baby Signing Time Instructor, Brenda Bonk, Simply Signing Northwest, LLC has a lot of exciting things coming up in Oregon! On March 21st, Brenda Bonk will be partnering with a local art studio, Art ala Carte (www.artalacartepdx.com), to teach a Play & Sign: Toddler Talk class. Signing is Expression

By Colleen Brunetti, M.Ed. One of my favorite things to do when introducing children to sign language is to talk about the value of expression while signing. It really helps the language begin to come alive, and it also taps into a child’s natural exuberance. Last year I had the pleasure of being a guest of the PTA Cultural Committee at my son’s school and I taught a lesson on “Feelings” to four Kindergarten classes and one preschool class. It was a blast, and I thought I’d share the lesson and some of the supplies I used. Feel free to …

Signing is Movement

By Colleen Brunetti, M.Ed. Over the last several years, children have become more and more sedentary, spending longer time in front of a screen, and less time running, jumping and just moving.  There’s been a lot of concern over the consequences of this change in activity level: from issues with physical development, to childhood obesity, to learning and behavioral problems. Add to that more time sitting at desks in the classroom, and less time running at recess and gym, and we as a nation have a challenge on our hands. This is not to say all is lost, however. PBS …

Signing is Spelling

By Colleen Brunetti, M.Ed. One of the biggest messages I find myself repeating to people is that signing with children can go well beyond the pre-verbal months of development. Indeed, if we keep signing with kids after they have started to talk, we begin to reap huge benefits in early literacy, from language development, to learning to read, to early spelling skills. Let’s talk about how sign language can help with something like spelling.  Signing has shown to be a great memory aid because it is both a visual and a tactile (feeling) cue. Children absolutely thrive on movement and …

The SigningTime Academy has provided us with three great ones to start: The Instructor’s Manual, The Classroom Edition, and The Preschool and Childcare Program (PCP).  If you are a part of the Signing Time Academy, you get the Instructor’s Manual when you sign on. The Classroom Edition comes …

Can’t Wait to Take the Next Class!

Written by Darla D., PA   I don’t know what parents of toddlers did before signing with babies became the trend.  We signed a few basics with my first (now 4 years old), but with my second, we started taking classes with Melissa Mons in Ardmore, PA.  At first I thought, “Really, a class for a one-year old?  This will be a waste of time, for sure.”  But Melissa was great, and my little Lambchop loved everything about it.  We picked up the pack of CDs, DVDs and cards for home, and both of my little ones loved them.  We …
