How Do I Teach My Child to Be a Problem Solver?

Problem-solving by definition is “the process of finding solutions to difficult or complex issues.” Henry Kaiser states, “Problems are only opportunities in work clothes.” How do we turn problems into opportunities so our children become problem solvers? Children learn best through modeled behavior, which is then practiced through play and everyday tasks. Consider puzzles; when children are young we give them puzzles that are simple. They match the shape with the matching cut out. Then as they get older and their fine motor skills develop, you give them puzzles with 12-24 pieces and are interlocking. They use their skills to …

Reinforces other classroom curricula. Children have fun learning it. When I was homeschooling my two daughters, not knowing a second language myself, the idea of a required foreign language was daunting.  In my research, I found out that most colleges …

Teaching Body Awareness in Your Classes

By Colleen Brunetti, M.Ed. Sometimes it can be quite a challenge to teach our littlest clients. In fact, I often have people ask me, “How do you manage to teach babies and toddlers classes? Do they even pay attention?” Well… yes and no! Right now I have a class of all one year olds. I don’t get 45 minutes of eye contact and interaction from them… not by a long shot! What I do get, however, is a chance to model for the parents and caregivers ways to invite their babies to explore the world, while integrating all the signs …

Let’s talk about how sign language can help with something like spelling.  Signing has shown to be a great memory aid because it is both a visual and a tactile (feeling) cue. Children absolutely thrive on movement and …
