Me in Sign Language

Learn how to sign me. It’s a good sign to be using as your child establishes a sense of self.

1. Take one hand, pointer finger extended and the remaining fingers tucked into the palm, and then point to yourself. The finger does not quite touch the chest at the end.
2. You point to yourself to sign me! Use this concept to help you remember the sign.

Teaching Tips:

  • Encourage your child to use this sign by phrasing opportunities with, “Who wants to ______?” (go to the park, play a game, go outside, etc.). Have your child sign me, and eventually also follow it with the sign for please!
  • Baby sign language can help establish a sense of self. Sign “me” and “you”, pointing first to yourself and then to baby. Make it a game and add a little tickle at the end.

Me. I take my finger and point to me. Me me me.
