Office in Sign Language
Learn how to sign office in ASL (American Sign Language). Does anyone in the house go to work in an office?
- First make an O-shape with both hands (just connect the fingertips of each hand!).
- Next show the walls, first the front and back walls by bending your arms so they are parallel to your body and to one another.
- Then show the side walls by extending both hands in front of you, elbows bent.
- This sign looks a little like a square room, and you know it is an office because O is for office! Use this visual and cue to help you remember the sign.
Teaching Tips – to learn how to sign office in ASL
- Is there an office you can visit? Maybe the office of a family member, friend, or even an in-home office. Practice signing office while you and your child observe all the things you might find in a busy office.
- Imaginative play in early childhood education is so important. Set up an area with a play office. Encourage your child to pretend to be busy at work with whatever they think goes on in an office. Sign office!
