You have shared your stories with us over the years. You’ve introduced us to your children, your dear spouses, even your parents. We’d like you to meet more of us here at Signing Time! Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kelly, former employee and proud mom of our new onesie model. In the summer of 2005, I was fresh out of college and looking for a job. I saw an opening at Signing Time and, because I had taken sign language classes through high school, I was excited to apply. Even though I had never heard of Signing Time …

Potty Training Fun – With Signing Time!

Here are two easy things you can do to help make potty training more fun: 1. Teach your child the sign for “potty.” Here’s how you do it: Make a fist. Put  your thumb between your first two fingers to make the letter “T” for toilet. Now shake your fist a little bit! This sign allows toddlers to tell parents when they need to go – even before they can say the word “potty.” Older children love this sign because it gives them a way to discretely tell an adult that they need to use the bathroom. 2. Watch the …

“Me, too!” A Making a Difference story

This post is by Joanna Smith of Surprise, AZ and is part of our Making a Difference series. My family and I went to a Harlem Globetrotters game the other weekend in Phoenix.  At the end of the game we went down to meet the players.  I saw a mom and her approx. 8 year old boy signing to each other (way faster than I could even understand).  It appeared that they were both deaf.  I pointed them out to my 12 year old daughter (who learned to sign from Signing Time over the past four years).   I told her …

Teachers team up with DonorsChoose.org to make a difference – with Signing Time!

Michelle Francis, a teacher in Layton, Utah, posted this video  to the Signing Time Facebook page the other day and asked if we recognized the song her students were singing – and signing – in the video. Do you recognize it? (Hint: It’s a really “silly” song!) Michelle is making a difference in her students lives with the help of DonorsChoose.org, an online charity that helps teachers get donations for specific classroom resources. She asked for – and got – an amazing collection of Signing Time materials, including most of the Series 1 DVDs, all of the Series 2 DVDs, …

Baby signing hits mainstream, book published by AAP touts benefits

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – November 18, 2010 – When the concept of using sign language with hearing babies was first introduced to the American public, critics dismissed it as a “parlor trick.” Since that time, infant signing has become an accepted parenting practice and has been integrated into early childhood education programs. In the recently-released second edition of “Heading Home with your Newborn: From Birth to Reality,” published by the American Academy of Pediatrics*, authors Laura Jana, MD, FAAP and Jennifer Shu, MD, FAAP comment on this phenomenon: “Infant sign language really does deliver on its promise of …
